Come one, come all! The Magic City Songwriting Contest is an annual search for Birmingham’s finest music to put on display. Each fall, we announce our writing theme and open submissions online to the public in search for Birmingham’s best original song to produce in the Mason Music Recording Studio and showcase on Birmingham Mountain Radio on New Year’s Day.

Our judges will score submissions based on a few criteria: melody, lyrics, composition, and originality. Make sure your song clearly references the theme too! Songs that do not reference the theme will be disqualified.

All submissions must be family-friendly and include no profanity. Only original music is allowed. Please limit your submission to 5 minutes in length.

Submissions can be made in the form of voice memos, YouTube video clips, or digital demo recordings of any kind. Please also submit lyrics in a PDF document for consideration. Lyrics must include the song title and composer’s name for administrative purposes.
