Why Mason Music For Piano Lessons?
With many options for piano lessons in Birmingham, Mason Music is consistently voted #1 by our customers. Our teachers, front desk and executive staff, facilities, locations, involvement in the community, business philosophy and our focus on serving our customers are just a few of the things that we believe contribute to earning that place in our customers’ minds.
At Mason Music, you are not simply signing up for private piano lessons. Rather, you are joining a community of music teachers, students and staff that are all on the same mission together: to inspire a growing community of passionate and excellent musicians! We create this community atmosphere based on some core principals:
• Everyone has value and should be accepted, included, encouraged and affirmed through their interactions at Mason Music.
• We must challenge each other to continually grow, develop and improve through focus, hard work and practice, AND
• We must be honest and kind to each other at all times.
This idea of community is central to who we are as a company and how we interact with our customers. It is also key to helping us serve our students in a way that builds confidence, social skills, coordination, work ethic, personal responsibility and, of course, a love for and ability to play music.
Our piano lesson rooms are stocked with everything our teachers and students need to create a great learning environment. From inspiring posters of great bands on the walls, to music stands, whiteboards, a digital keyboard with 88 weighted keys, plus a setup for playing along with the music being learned, we spare no expense to make sure we have a comfortable and safe space for lessons to take place. All of our lesson rooms have windows in the doors and we maintain an open door policy with parents who want to sit in on a lesson from time to time.
Unique Learning Environments:
With over 1,000 students in private music lessons, our piano students have the rare chance to put their skills into practice when they plug in with voice, guitar, drum and violin students for group lessons, camps, and programs; turning what would otherwise be a solo journey into a collaborative team effort. All of this begins for most of our students with private lessons.
Where Do You Find Your Piano Teachers?
We have to brag on our team for a minute. Our piano teachers absolutely rock. They are the most qualified and passionate piano teachers in Birmingham. The proof is in the performances we hear from our students at recitals and concerts and it’s on the faces of our students when they walk out of lessons every week.
Our selection process for bringing teachers onto our team is thorough and includes multiple rounds of interviews, auditions, shadowing veteran teachers, a background check and reference calls. This is to ensure that our greatest asset (that’s YOU) has the best experience. There is a huge difference between having a skill and having the ability to teach that skill. We work hard to find people who have both. The result of all of this effort is that our team of piano teachers is experienced, talented, inspiring, fun and great at teaching kids and adults alike.
What Ages Do You Teach?
We have a large range of students at Mason Music, from young children to adults at every skill level. Most children are ready for private lessons by the age of 7, but every child is different. Our recommendation on whether a child is ready for music lessons primarily depends on their maturity level and ability to focus and practice, rather than on their age. In general, we often encourage parents to enroll children under 6 in our Munchkin Music preschool program or our music camps to teach them the foundational elements of music and to prepare them for private lessons. For adults who are interested in starting lessons, our teachers love older students! There are also quite a few advantages to taking lessons later in life. Find out why it’s never too late to learn music as an adult.
How Do Piano Lessons Work At Mason Music?
We teach private weekly lessons, which means one-on-one lessons with the same teacher on the same day and time each week. We do offer some pair lesson options (two students and one teacher), depending on the instrument and the age of the students. Students are matched with a teacher who will be the best fit for the student’s goals, experience, personality and schedule. You will meet with your teacher once a week each week for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on which lesson length you select. The goal for each lesson is to provide time for building a relationship, warming up, reviewing what was learned in the previous lesson and providing new instruction. Most beginner students start with 30 minute lessons, while 45 minutes is great for teens and beginner-level adults and 60-minute lessons are best for most adults and more advanced students who are interested in accelerating their progress.
In terms of pricing, we offer several options ranging from a month-to-month agreement to a year-long contract. These options are meant to offer our customers the best match their needs related to schedule flexibility, pricing and commitment level.
Do I Need A Piano Before I Sign Up For Piano Lessons?
Yes and no. We know that buying an instrument is a big investment. If you are testing out your child’s interest and aren’t ready to take the plunge, we totally understand and will work with you! On the other hand, having a piano (or keyboard) at home is a big advantage when it comes to students making progress between lessons. Plus, buying an instrument = more noise, more noise = more fun, more fun = more practice and more practice = more progress. Therefore, according to the transitive property, buying an instrument = more progress. The good news is that for less than the price of four months of lessons, you can get the same digital pianos we use in our lesson rooms. We have done a lot of research on the best instruments for students to learn on so we stock the Casio Privia PX-S1000. We’ve also created a video that showcases some of the important features that come with this keyboard, especially for beginners. If you are interested in purchasing a used piano, be sure to check the community bulletin boards in our studios for any that are being sold by other families at Mason Music.
What Will I (Or My Child) Learn?
At Mason Music, piano lessons not only include rocking out to the songs you love, they expand your knowledge and skills as a pianist. Our piano teachers focus lesson time on music theory and exercises along with different styles and techniques crucial to becoming a well-rounded piano player. We work to make sure that you are placed with a teacher who will challenge and inspire you to become the best piano player you can be. Because we know each individual student has unique learning styles, goals and previous experience, our teachers develop customized lesson plans for each student to make sure we are delivering effective and productive instruction that is exactly what you’re looking for.
