Join us in celebrating June’s Student Spotlight, Miller Caine! Miller may have only been taking guitar lessons at Mason Music for a few months, but her curiosity, dedication, and passion for music immediately stand out. Rock on!
Miller hasn’t always been into guitar. In fact, she originally started at Mason Music with the ukulele in her early elementary school years before taking a break. Recently, Miller’s gotten back in the musical saddle and she has excelled in picking up guitar – no doubt helped by the foundational skills she learned on ukulele years prior!
Beyond bringing foundational skills to her lessons, Miller’s thriving with an excellent student-teacher fit, taking lessons with Jeshua. “I love taking from him because he is talented, patient, funny, and makes guitar even more fun,” said Miller. We may be biased, but awesome teachers like Jeshua make Mason Music the best place to take lessons.
As a musician, Miller is excited by learning the music of her favorite bands and artists, listing Judah and the Lion and Pure Imagination. She also shared that she loves music because it’s a low pressure, fun activity, which is quite the contrast to her other hobby, cheerleading.
Miller shared with us that she wishes she’d stuck with an instrument earlier and kept going, but she has this advice for fellow music students from experience: “I would tell them to keep practicing and to not get too frustrated when you can’t figure something out, because often [when you] try again it will click.” We couldn’t agree more. (As a matter of fact, most music students experience their first major setbacks in the first few months of lessons. Overcoming that initial hurdle is one of the greatest indicators of long term success with their instrument. Read our blog here on tips for the first 90 days of lessons.)
We are excited to cheer Miller on in her journey at Mason Music and beyond! Her story reminds us to stay curious, dedicated students of our craft and to not be afraid to try something new.
