Mason Music is launching a student record label—and we’re looking for our first artists.

We’re selecting 3 serious student musicians to write, record, and release an original song this fall with a Nashville producer.

This is your chance to:

Students ages 12–20 (flexible if needed)
Individual singers, songwriters, and instrumentalists

- (standard cost for producing and releasing a single is $2,500-$4,000.

Nashville producer and Director of Mason Music Recording division Schylar Shoates to hold open auditions in Birmingham on May 31. “We are looking for our first 3 artists to sign to Mason Music Records. This is a really exciting opportunity for our students,” says Shoates.

3 students from Birmingham will be selected to write, record and release original music on major streaming platforms this fall.

1 grand prize winner will receive all recording and release services for free and 2 runners up will receive a 50% discount off of regular pricing.

Mason Music Records provides songwriting, recording and release support, taking ideas and bringing them to life while educating students and families about the music industry and the process of creating and releasing original music.

FAQs

What is an open audition?
An open audition is your chance to showcase your talent to a group of judges who are looking for students to work with on songwriting and recording projects. You will be assigned a time in advance, and will have 10-15 minutes to share your story and one song with the judges.
What should I play?
If you have written any of your own music, we would love to hear an original song. If you have not yet written, a cover song is acceptable to showcase your talent.
What are you looking for in an artist?
Originality, talent, and passion.

We are looking for student artists who have something unique to share with the world, who have been working hard to develop their abilities, and who are excited about the prospect of releasing music.
What happens if we don’t get picked this time?
For our first round of artist signings, we are keeping the selection group small (3) to ensure we deliver an incredible experience as we develop this program. We plan on holding more auditions in the future, so if you aren’t selected this time, don’t give up. Keep working and come back the next time.
Will there be a live audience?
No. You will be performing in an empty room just for the judges. Still, bring the energy!
How much would this opportunity cost if we had to pay full price?
Pricing for record label services vary from project to project. The average single costs between $2,500 and $4,000 but depends on many factors. You can read more on this page.
