At Mason Music, we firmly believe in the transformative power of music and its ability to inspire and heal, and nothing is a better example of that, than this story. In this student spotlight, we are thrilled to share the remarkable musical journey of Sean, a longstanding member of our Mason Music family. Sean’s story not only reflects his personal passion for music but also highlights the profound impact it can have on one’s life.
Sean’s connection with Mason Music goes back to his elementary school days when the founder, Will Mason, was just starting out, long before Mason Music became the thriving community it is today. During this time, Sean was battling the challenges of cancer, and Will would visit Sean at his home with his acoustic guitar to teach him to play, marking the beginning of a musical journey that transcended the ordinary teacher-student relationship.
For Sean, music has been more than just a pastime; it’s a lifeline. During his battle with cancer, music became a source of solace and strength. He recalls the impact of music therapy in the hospital, where songs provided comfort during challenging times. “Music, to me, is everything,” Sean emphasizes, highlighting the profound role music played in his healing journey.
Sean’s musical taste is eclectic, drawing inspiration from the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and other funky, upbeat styles. As Will and Sean began to play together, they explored the music of Muse and Rage Against the Machine, fueling Sean’s creative and imaginative approach to music. Sean has come a long way from those early days at home and is now working on some big projects. Currently, Sean and Will are recording Sean’s original songs at the Mason Music recording studio!
Outside of his musical pursuits, Sean is a dedicated player in the world of lacrosse at Samford University, his favorite sport. With aspirations to work in the sports industry post-college, Sean balances his love for music with an active social life, cherishing moments spent with friends.
Reflecting on his own musical struggles, Sean offers valuable advice to fellow musicians and music students. He encourages other students to just stick with it when learning a new instrument can be challenging. Sean’s journey reminds us all that dedication and passion can lead to a lifetime of musical fulfillment.
