Join us in celebrating our October student spotlight Jude Carter! Jude has been taking guitar lessons at Mason Music for two years and he’s also in his second season of Rock Band League. We’re inspired by his hard work!

Jude found his inspiration to start in the sweetest place: on a trip with his friends. He realized all of his friends on the trip were musicians, and, inspired by them, he picked up the guitar his parents gave him years prior and fell in love. Thanks to his supportive family, he found his way to Mason Music. “I wanted to learn more about playing the guitar,” he shares. His commitment to learning has only grown since then, as he diligently practices in weekly lessons, preparing to audition for Berklee.

One of the highlights of Jude’s experience has been working with his teacher Marcelo. “Marcelo and I enjoy the same styles of music,” Jude says. “He is a very talented musician and has lots of wisdom to share.” Likewise, Marcelo had nothing but kind words to share about his student, sharing: “Jude’s hard work and persistence shows in every riff, constantly pushing his limits to blend his influences into a style that’s uniquely his own. His dedication to mastering both technical precision and musical expression makes his preparation stand out.” This connection has been key in Jude’s growth.

Jude draws inspiration from virtuosic musicians like Polyphia, Mateus Asato, and Greg Koch. Recently, he has been exploring their intricate sounds, which motivates him to elevate his own playing. “Music has defined who I am today and hopefully who I will become in the future. I have met many of my greatest friends and developed deep relationships through music,” he reflects.

Jude’s advice for fellow musicians? “Keep playing. Persistence is key. But also don’t force it; keep playing because you love it.”
