We’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on our student Emilia Taylor as she prepared for her first recital! Emilia, who has been taking Mason Music piano lessons for the past year, has captured our hearts. Whether it’s her passion for pop music or her excitement about her first recital, Emilia is a great example of how music brings joy, growth, and a sense of accomplishment.

Emilia’s time at Mason Music started when her family made the move from Texas and she needed to find a new piano teacher. Mason Music was excited to welcome Emilia’s continued piano studies and she’s been playing with us ever since. Emilia shares, “Music makes me happy and always makes me feel better when I’m sad.” (Us too, Emilia!)

A huge part of Emilia’s success at Mason Music is her fantastic teacher Olivia Webber. Emilia said the following about Olivia: “I love that she is sweet and kind. She makes me feel good about playing the piano!” Olivia’s thoughtful approach to teaching has clearly made a lasting impact with her student. “Emilia practices with such commitment,” Olivia says, “and I see so much improvement… week to week. She is such a hard worker and always has a smile on her face—it’s clear that she loves music and pours her whole heart into what she’s working on.”

One of the things we admire most about Emilia is her determination and positive attitude. Despite being in the middle of a big transition, Emilia’s commitment to her piano practice was unwavering. She’s currently preparing for her first recital in December, where she’ll be performing the festive holiday tune “Up on the Rooftop”—a piece she’s been working hard to perfect for the occasion.

In addition to playing piano, Emilia loves dance and arts and crafts. She enjoys making handmade gifts for her family. It’s clear Emilia is a natural artist in many ways!

When asked for advice for other students, Emilia shared, “Keep practicing even when you don’t want to!” (Psst, parents! This is why we have the Rock Record Challenge to help keep students consistent and excited about practice.) It’s advice she clearly follows herself—Emilia’s dedication to her music and her growth as a pianist are truly inspiring.
